About the event
A Rose for Carrie: Honoring a Legacy of Courage
On June 5, 2025, we mark 20 years since CPL Carrie French, a 19-year-old from Idaho, became the first Idaho woman killed in combat during the war in Iraq. Her sacrifice—young, brave, and unforgettable—will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew her, and even those who didn’t.
This fall, a permanent tribute will rise at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise—a statue not only of Carrie, but of every Idaho woman who has worn the uniform and stood in defense of freedom.
But before that statue stands, we invite you to help us lay the foundation—one rose at a time.
📅 Thursday, June 5, 2025🕘 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.📍 Idaho State Veterans Cemetery – Memorial Site
Bring a pink rose—Carrie’s color—and place it at the future site of the memorial. Let your flower carry the weight of remembrance, of gratitude, of silent stories only a heart can tell. Roses will be gathered at day’s end and delivered to Carrie’s mother, along with any letters, notes, or tokens left in her honor.
Some roses will be available at the site, but bringing your own adds a personal touch to this living tribute.
